2010 Chopin Tour

2010 Chopin Tour  The year 2010 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of the great composer, Frédéric Chopin. To celebrate this man’s outstanding contribution to classical music and to acknowledge his own mastery of the piano in the great salons of Europe, we invite you to join this musical study tour in the glorious Springtime atmosphere of his homeland, Poland, and his adopted country, France.

The tour begins by tracing Chopin’s early life in Warsaw, visiting sites where he lived and performed in palaces, salons and churches and where his heart remains to this day. It includes journeys to his birthplace in the Mazovian countryside and to the village church where he was baptised.

We also plan to visit the home of a Polish family to ‘dip ourselves into the culture’, enjoying a home hosted dinner with the traditional cuisine of the region.

The celebration of Chopin’s genius will include performances by professional musicians and opera artists and private piano recitals by Chopin specialists. Every step of the way, the tour’s Music Host Mike Smith (as well as local Chopin experts) will lead us through the life and works of one of the world’s greatest composers.

In Paris we’ll explore the Salons which made Frédéric Chopin famous and the many places where he lived in the beautiful ‘City of Light’, with its dazzling array of monuments and cultural treasures. We then move to the magnificent Loire Valley to enjoy the wonders of country France at Amboise where Leonardo da Vinci spent his final years. We’ll visit his villa and nearby Chateau Chenonceau. Our Grand Finale will be to visit Maison de George Sand where in both the house where Chopin spent his summers with this exceptional female writer and in the rustic village of Nohant we will feel the presence of Chopin and the atmosphere which inspired so many of his great works. This music study tour combines music education with sightseeing and a cultural experience of fine music and rich history with a celebration of life in Europe - past and present.
