In March 2009, Nexus 2MBS Virtuosi glided into the Sydney music scene with its first concert. The ensemble, Brenda Jones (piano), Kirsty Hilton (violin), Jeremy Williams (viola) and Patrick Murphy (cello), was proudly formed by 2MBS-FM to continue the charter aim of encouraging and supporting local musicians, as well as to help raise the profile of our station among the concert-going public. The group, which can be augmented with other fine players to suit the repertoire, gave a total of four concerts in 2009 to enthusiastic acclaim.

Now Nexus 2MBS Virtuosi goes Live and Local as part of our 35th anniversary celebrations. As we feature recordings of some of these concerts this month, listeners will be able to sample some of the delights which Nexus has to offer, and hopefully will become eager to attend some or all of the three concerts this year. The broadcasts will include Ravel's Piano Trio in A minor, Beethoven's String Trio op 9 no 1, Mozart's Horn Quintet and two of the three piano quartets of Brahms.

The much anticipated 2010 public concerts will be held on Sunday afternoons: 28th March, 25th July and 31st October, all at 4pm at the Independent Theatre, North Sydney. We are happy that 2MBS-FM and Nexus 2MBS Virtuosi are partnered to enrich the Sydney (and indeed, worldwide) music scene. – Debbie Scholem
