TWO SOULS – MIKHAIL SIMONYAN
Khachaturian: Concerto for Violin and Orchestra
Barber: Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, op 14
Mikhail Simonyan, violin; London Symphony Orchestra; Kristjan Järvi, conductor
Deutsche Grammophon DG 477 9827
Acclaimed violinist Mikhail Simonyan’s debut Deutsche Grammophon recording features the violin concertos by Khachaturian and Barber. The violinist describes the personal nature of this project as: ‘The choice of these two concertos for my first DG recording has a close biographical connotation – besides the fact that I adore the two compositions. I was born to an Armenian father and my mother is Russian; however I’ve lived in New York since 1999. My soul is 100% Armenian, while my life is based in the US. The concertos by Khachaturian and Barber represent the two cultures that have influenced me most.’
